When I first met Chelsie Hill at the Starbucks in Studio City 10 years ago, I KNEW my life was about to change.
And boy did it ever. I was looking for a flexible personal assistant job and just happened to answer a craigslist add. That two hour interview turned into me being hired on the spot. My first Rollettes Experience was 12 girls piled into 3 cars back in 2015. I followed them around Los Angeles to different dance studios and loaded countless wheelchairs in and out of cars. I look back at the last 10 years and I think of every moment with each person in this community that has impacted my life.
People with disabilities often experience a lot of isolation without access to strong community and the proper resources to live their most boundless lives. I see it every single day. In 2022 during Rollettes Experience, I had an attendee stop me in the hall, grab my hand and tell me they had no longer wanted to be with us here on earth anymore when they attended our event in 2021, but after attending Rollettes Experience that year, they changed their mind. She had found friends and didn't feel so alone. THAT'S why we do this. For the last 10 years, I've worked with Chelsie and the Rollettes to show the world that women with disabilities are strong, resilient, and powerful.
I'm fundraising this giving season for us to be able to expand our accessible dance programs across the country and bring Rollettes Experience to more cities so more people with disabilities have access to this community.
I'm going to be honest, it takes A LOT to make these programs and events possible. $1000 will help a lot, but we have a long way to go before we can really do the work we hope to do with Rollettes Foundation. Give what you can and every precious dollar will be used for this good.
Although I wish our systems gave more consistent funding to people with disabilities, it's people like you that will help us fill in those gaps.
