After my car crash and becoming a wheelchair user I felt lost, lonely, and helpless. I had never met anyone else in a wheelchair or even anyone else with any of my medical conditions--- POTS, EDS, CRPS. or MCAS ect.. I joined many online support groups through social media as well as through my doctors. The problem was most of the posts made me feel sad. The people in the groups made it seem like life in a wheelchair was limited. It felt like I would no longer be accepted, achieve my goals or find joy.

That all changed 6 years ago in 2019, when I came across Chelsie Hill (the founder of The Rollettes Foundation) and The Rollettes on Instagram. I messaged Chelsie and even began taking private lessons from her. I finally felt hopeful. Because of her I was able to go on stage that year and perform a wheelchair dance routine and felt proud of what I was doing. I hadn’t danced since before the crash which was in 2013. Thanks to her I found my love of dance again.

The Rollettes Foundation is dedicated to empowering women and girls with disabilities through dance, community, and advocacy. Each year they host a weekend long event called Rollettes Experience. I attended my first one in 2022. I was beyond nervous to go as I had no idea what to expect, but that all went away when I arrived. Every lady there was truly so accepting. We attended dance classes, seminars and panels and even had parties in the evenings. For the first time I was surrounded by women just like me; women full of love, confidence, and resilience. For the first time I wasn’t in the minority, I wasn’t having people look down on me while we talked. These ladies continue to support and uplift me to this day. Through the seminars and panels I was able to learn more about life in a wheelchair. I came back home truly a different person. I will forever be grateful for the Rollettes Foundation & all they do. I am proud to be a Rollettes Experience Ambassador because now I can help those girls and women who arrive as nervous as I was and get to show them what its like to be accepted.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Rollettes Foundation to support our annual weekend-long conference as well as other virtual classes and events throughout the year for women and girls with disabilities!
